New Theme and 2.7

If you've been here before, you may have noticed a new theme gracing my blog. I upgraded to wordpress 2.7 a while back, and i wanted to use a theme that would make use of new features.

The theme of choice is... CryBook by ThemeTation. A few tweaks here and there and it's all set. It is a very light theme since it doesn't have any images. Saves bandwidth and reduces loading time!

There are a few glitches though, enabling the "Automatically close comments on articles older than XX days" in discussion options breaks the theme. The sidebar goes under the content rather than at the side where it should be.

CryBook also breaks the styling of the SyntaxHighlighter Plugin as demonstrated by one of my posts here. Using my old theme doesn't do this.

I'm sure there is a fix to this... I just hope I have time to check it out...

Google has released their web browser which is now available for public download. I've installed it on my machine and it is really light on the resources.. Quite fast as well.. Grab yourself a copy now and try it out

Optimizing your CSS with CSSTidy

CSSTidy is an opensource CSS parser and optimiser. Optimizing your CSS decreases the output file size and also allows for faster page loading. Faster page load equals saved bandwidth! CSSTidy allows you to chose the compression type you want to use to optimise your css. From Low compression with high readability, to Highest compression with no readability yet the smallest output size. There are also other options which you may chose from.

WUBI – Linux side-by-side with Windows.. The easy way

Installing a Linux distribution side-by-side with a Windows installation can be a hassle. You have to partition the drive, install trough boot, then wait for Linux to finish installing. Sometimes it will be successful, and sometimes you end up with a corrupted Windows boot record. Sucks doesn't it?

It doesn't have to be like that anymore! Wubi is the answer! What is Wubi?

Wubi is a Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other application. If you heard about Linux and Ubuntu, if you wanted to try them but you were afraid, Wubi is for you.

You don't need to modify your pc in any way. It's just a simple installer, and installs as you would any other program. Plus it's absolutely free! However, Hibernation is not supported under Wubi. Wubi's filesystem is also more vulnerable to hardreboots (unplugging the power) than a normal filesystem, so you must try to avoid unplugging the power. These problems, however, are no longer present once the Ubuntu install created by Wubi has been transferred to a dedicated partition using LVPM.

Google Docs is great for storing and sharing docs and spreadsheets online. But, it also allows you to create live polls and quizzes! This is a great way to encourage interaction to your readers.

taskbar shuffle updated

You guys might still remember my previous post about the Taskbar Shuffle. Well guess what? Of course they fixed a few bugs. But, they also added two new features. First, they added the ability to shuffle your system tray icons. This requires a hotkey (which by default is the CTRL key), unlike taskbar buttons. Another great thing is they now added a standalone version for those who do not want to install the tool and want a lighter alternative. The Taskbar Shuffle is still a great application and can really help a lot in organizing the taskbar icons for added convenience. I know it has helped me a lot!
