Optimizing your CSS with CSSTidy

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 |

CSSTidy is an opensource CSS parser and optimiser. Optimizing your CSS decreases the output file size and also allows for faster page loading. Faster page load equals saved bandwidth! CSSTidy allows you to chose the compression type you want to use to optimise your css. From Low compression with high readability, to Highest compression with no readability yet the smallest output size. There are also other options which you may chose from.

I have installed version 1.3 of CSSTidy onto my server so if you want to use it or just try it out, hurry up and go to http://www.raylanddelosreyes.com/csstidy/

If you like this post, you can buy me a cup of coffee or two. Thank you!

WUBI - Linux side-by-side with Windows.. The easy way

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 |

Installing a Linux distribution side-by-side with a Windows installation can be a hassle. You have to partition the drive, install trough boot, then wait for Linux to finish installing. Sometimes it will be successful, and sometimes you end up with a corrupted Windows boot record. Sucks doesn’t it?

It doesn’t have to be like that anymore! Wubi is the answer! What is Wubi?

Wubi is a Ubuntu installer for Windows users that will bring you into the Linux world with a single click. Wubi allows you to install and uninstall Ubuntu as any other application. If you heard about Linux and Ubuntu, if you wanted to try them but you were afraid, Wubi is for you.

You don’t need to modify your pc in any way. It’s just a simple installer, and installs as you would any other program. Plus it’s absolutely free! :D However, Hibernation is not supported under Wubi. Wubi’s filesystem is also more vulnerable to hardreboots (unplugging the power) than a normal filesystem, so you must try to avoid unplugging the power. These problems, however, are no longer present once the Ubuntu install created by Wubi has been transferred to a dedicated partition using LVPM.

taskbar shuffle updated

Friday, June 22nd, 2007 |

The Taskbar Shuffle
You guys might still remember my previous post about the Taskbar Shuffle. Well guess what? Of course they fixed a few bugs. But, they also added two new features. First, they added the ability to shuffle your system tray icons. This requires a hotkey (which by default is the CTRL key), unlike taskbar buttons. Another great thing is they now added a standalone version for those who do not want to install the tool and want a lighter alternative. The Taskbar Shuffle is still a great application and can really help a lot in organizing the taskbar icons for added convenience. I know it has helped me a lot!

Aside from those features, some bugs have also been fixed.

The Taskbar Shuffle

Monday, January 29th, 2007 |

I came upon this great tool that I believe should be built in with Microsoft Windows. It’s called The Taskbar Shuffle. Well, the name itself is self explanatory.

No hotkey, no extra steps, rearrange the programs on your Windows taskbar by simply… well, dragging and dropping them! Neat concept, huh?No need to get all nervous when a program crashes or if you wanna reboot; you can reorder the programs/buttons on your taskbar exactly how you like.

Neat Right? LOL! Get the program now. It’s FREE!! No spyware either.

hey WINDOWS! LINUX has that too…

Thursday, January 18th, 2007 |

Many people are hesitant to switch to a Linux OS platform.. They say that the programs are limited and there are no equivalents for the basic everyday programs that are found on the Windows platform..

I agree that the selection of programs is limited. What do you expect? It is open source.. But having no equivalents, I’m afraid that is not true..

There is a project called “The Linux Equivalent Project“. Their site gives a long list of programs available for the Linux platform. When you look at the list, you would see two columns.. The left column is the “Windows Software” and the right column is the “Linux Equivalent/Alternative”. And the good thing is, they’re free!! Some of the software also run on the Windows platform.

You might want to check them out at the The Linux Equivalent Project website.

Watch your ‘word’

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006 |

If you are a fond user of Microsoft Word, then you had better be careful..Three unpatched bugs in Word have been uncovered in the last few weeks and two are already being exploited by attackers. The bugs allows attackers to create booby-trapped documents that steal information or take over a PC when they are opened.

No patch is yet available to fix these bugs.

Firefox 3.0

Monday, December 11th, 2006 |

The Mozilla team has released its first alpha release of Firefox 3.0 giving Firefox and Web application developers an early look at the next-generation browser. Mozilla has said that this release is not intended for regular users. Nor is it for those who like to play around with early versions of a product.

The software, code-named “Gran Paradiso”, comes just a mere six weeks after Mozilla shipped out version 2.0 of the Firefox browser, but it has already been more than a year in development, according to Mike Schroepfer, Mozilla’s vice president of engineering.

As of now, Mozilla team is still developing “Gran Paradiso” through their nightly builds.

firefox tweaks !!!!

Friday, September 29th, 2006 |

hey! it’s been a while since my last post… HEHEHE! anyways, i was surfing the net and i came across some tweaks for firefox… check them out…

Simple Firefox Tweaks

NOTICE: Make sure you backup all of the Firefox folder and appdata. You can use MozBackup to backup and restore your Firefox profile.

These tweaks are a .cheap and dirty. way to speed up the browser, and enable a few nice features. However, the more experienced net user might want to go ahead to the advanced tweaks too.

1a: Type “about:config” in the address bar (where you usually type a web address to) without the quotes.

This will bring you to the built in configurator, (example of what it looks like) where the tweaking can begin

1b: In the filter bar start typing HTTP, this will take you to the first set of settings we will change.

2: Change: network.http.pipelining to true by double clicking

3: Change: network.http.pipelining.maxrequests to 8 by double clicking then entering the new value in the box

4: Change: network.http.proxy.pipelining to true by double clicking

5: Change: network.http.max-persistant-connections-per-proxy to 8

6a: Change: network.http.max-persistant-connections-per-server to 8

6b: Change: network.http.max-connections to 48

7: Right-Click anywhere in the configurator and add a new integer. The name of this must be nglayout.initialpaint.delay and a value of 0

8: Restart Firefox by closing all windows and tabs and then reopening Firefox for the changes to become effective.

here are tweaks that depend on your cpu and connection capabilities
you have to locate your prefs.js file first though.. for xp, it’s located at C:\Documents and Settings\’username’\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\’XXXXXX’.default.. then paste whichever script applies

note: application data files are usually hidden
